Crockett is located in the San Francisco Bay Area where the Carquinez Strait meets San Pablo Bay. US Interstate 80 links Crockett, via the Carquinez Bridge across the strait, with Vallejo to the north. Along the strait to the east of Crockett are Martinez and Port Costa. South of Crockett lie the town of Rodeo and the city of Hercules. Farther southwest on I-80 are the cities of Bereley and Oakland and towards the northeast Sacramento, the capital of California.
Crockett is named for Joseph B. Crockett, an early California Supreme Court Judge and is situated on the original Mexican land grant of Rancho El Pinole made to Ygnacio Martinez. The town began when a Thomas Edwards Sr. bought the land for a sugar company from Judge Crockett in 1867. C and H (California and Hawaii) sugar is currently located there. The population of Crockett was reported as 3,399 in July 2007, and it lies with in the 510 area code and is assigned the postal Zip code of 94525.
