Benicia a waterside city located in Solano County, California. The city is situated in the San Francisco Bay Area along the north bank of the Carquinez Strait. Benicia is just east of Vallejo and across the strait from Martinez. In relation to other cities of the Bay Area, Benicia is 35 miles northeast of San Francisco, 29 miles from Oakland, 14 miles North of Walnut Creek and 57 miles Southwest of Sacramento.

It served as the state capital for nearly thirteen months from 1853 to 1854. The population was 26,865 according to the 2000 census. With two major interstate freeways providing access to the Bay Area and beyond. Benicia is located at the juncture of Interstates 680 and 780. North or Southbound, I-80 can be reached from Benicia traveling five miles west on I-780. Amtrak also runs past the city north towards Sacramento, but the nearest train station lies in Martinez across the Carquinez Strait.
