El Cerrito is a city in Contra Costa County, California, bordered by Albany and Kensington to the south, the Richmond annex to the west, East Richmond Heights to the north, and Wildcat Canyon Regional Park to the east. The population of El Cerrito was 23,171 according to the 2000 census.

El Cerrito was founded by refugees from the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire and was originally called Rust. When the town grew to 1500 people, El Cerrito was incorporated as a city on 1917 and they changed it’s name to El Cerrito, which means Little Hill in Spanish.

El Cerrito is approximately 5 miles from the University of California in Berkeley. It has two Bay Area rapid transit stations Transit (BART) stations, and is served by many AC transit bus lines and has access to Interstate 80, with access to San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland.
