Vallejo is the largest city in Solano County, California, and is located in the northern part of the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. It is situated on the northeastern shore of San Pablo Bay. Vallejo is named for General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo. It is the first permanent home of California’s state government and is the home of the first naval ship building and repair facility on the west coast. Mare Island Naval Shipyard, established in 1854, helped Vallejo grow into the largest ship construction and repair facility in the world during WWII.
Vallejo is serviced by Interstate 80 between San Francisco and Sacramento, and is the northern terminus of the dual span Carquinez Starit Bridge.
